Help for the helpers
U of M medical students lend a helping hand to frontline health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic

When the COVID-19 crisis began, health care workers were faced with keeping up their households during a time of school closings and an onslaught of work that cannot be done from home.

Recognizing the need, medical students on Twin Cities campus founded Mn CovidSitters, a volunteer group that helps health care workers of all stripes with tasks like child and pet care, grocery shopping, and errands.

Virtually overnight, the group recruited volunteers, created an app to automatically match volunteers with families, and launched a website with the motto "Caring for your family while you care for ours."

Watch medical student Whitney Johnson reflect on her experience volunteering with the group.
