Capable and brave

Kimie Shiozawa came to the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) all the way from Tokyo to study natural resources with an emphasis on wildlife management.

But she did more than just go to classes. She led and participated in numerous efforts to bring international and domestic students together on campus, including serving as the treasurer for the Multicultural International Club and providing support for international student orientation.

"Kimie showed her fellow students how capable and brave a person has to be to become an international student," says Theresa Helgeson, lab services coordinator in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department.

Shiozawa was recently named a winner of the 2020 Mestenhauser Student Award for Excellence in Campus Internationalization. Watch this short video to learn more.
